The issue of identity politics requires contemplation particularly in this election. Following are my thoughts on this matter.
Kamala Harris is now promoting she has African heritage while minimizing her Indian heritage. I have seen evidence of her Indian heritage but have not seen evidence of her African heritage. She has attempted to speak recently with what she must consider is an urban Black accent and very recently with what she must consider a Jamaican accent. Is this mocking behavior? Are these accents when combined with preaching fear of a Trump presidency pandering for votes?
Is voting for someone based on their sex, ethnicity, race, or religion bias without basis? Voting for any candidate should be performed based on research into the candidate’s professional history, their education, their track record, their stated values, their observed actions, and their stated policies. I remember many people expecting me to vote for Hillary Clinton simply because she is a woman…I chose not to…because my research into her professional history, her education, her track record, her stated values, her observed actions, and her stated policies did not align with my vision of what was best for our USA. I believe I made a very wise decision. If you have doubt about that election, I suggest you watch the movie 13 Hours, recall the price of gas during President Trump’s tenure, remember the securing of our border under President Trump, and review the world political climate during the presidency of President Trump. I refused then, and I refuse now to vote for an individual based on how well I identify with her sex.
If it is proposed that we vote for anyone based on their sex, race, ethnicity or religion then is it not also proposed we should not vote for someone based on those same aspects of their being? Is this responsible voting? Voting is a very important right we have in our wonderful country. It should be taken seriously and undertaken with proper education regarding the candidates and the needs of our country while wearing figurative blinders concerning basic identity.
